What types of steel strands are there from steel strand manufacturers?

Steel strands from steel strand manufacturers are steel products composed of multiple steel wires. The carbon steel surface can be coated with epoxy, copper plating, zinc plating, zinc-aluminum alloy, or aluminum coating as needed.

Steel Strand Categories from Steel Strand Manufacturers:

  (1) Classification by Application

Prestressed steel strands, galvanized steel strands (for electricity), and stainless steel strands. Prestressed steel strands are coated with anticorrosion grease or paraffin wax and wrapped in HDPE, which are called unbonded steel strands.

  (2) Classification by Material Properties

Steel strands, aluminum-clad steel strands, and stainless steel strands.

  (3) Classification by Structure

Prestressed steel strands can be classified into 7-wire, 19-wire, 2-wire, and 3-wire structures according to the number of wires, with the 7-wire structure being the most common.

Galvanized steel strands and aluminum-clad steel strands for electricity from steel strand manufacturers are also classified into 2, 3, 7, 19, and 37 wire structures, with the 7-wire structure being the most common.

  (4) Classification by Surface Coating

These can be divided into steel strands, galvanized steel strands, epoxy-coated steel strands, aluminum-clad steel strands, copper-plated steel strands, and plastic-coated steel strands, etc.

The manufacturing process of steel strands from steel strand manufacturers is divided into single-wire manufacturing and strand manufacturing. Single wires use (cold) drawing technology. Depending on the product, the material can be high-carbon steel wire rod, stainless steel wire rod, or medium-low carbon steel wire rod. If galvanizing is required, it should be electroplated or hot-dipped on the single wire. In the steel strand manufacturing process, multiple steel wires are twisted together into a product by a twisting machine. Prestressed steel strands also require continuous stabilization after forming.

Galvanized steel strands from steel strand manufacturers usually refer to tension members, tie wires, core wires, or strength members, etc., and can also be used as ground wires/grounding wires for overhead power transmission, shielding cables on both sides of highways, or structural cables in building structures. Commonly used prestressed steel strands in prestressed steel strands are uncoated and galvanized steel strands for prestressed concrete, commonly used in bridge, building, water conservancy, energy, and geotechnical engineering. Unbonded steel strands or single strands are commonly used in floor and foundation engineering.

The tensile force controlled in the design of prestressed steel strand tensioning construction by steel strand manufacturers refers to the tension of the steel strand in front of the anchor after prestressed tensioning. Therefore, when calculating the theoretical elongation of prestressed steel strand tensioning, the distance between the anchor points at both ends of the steel strand should be used as the calculated length of the steel strand.

When prestressed steel strands are tensioned by steel strand manufacturers, most of the exposed parts of the steel strands are wrapped by anchors and jacks, and the tension elongation of the steel strands cannot be directly measured on the steel strands. Therefore, the tension elongation of the steel strands can only be calculated by measuring the stroke of the tensioning jack, but at the same time, the anchor retraction during the entire tensioning process of the steel strands should be reduced.
