High-carbon steel wire rod is used for prestressed steel strands. After surface treatment and cold drawing into wires, it undergoes a stabilization process to eliminate stress, resulting in increased durability. The wires may have metallic or non-metallic coatings. Before the structural member is subjected to external loads, pressure is applied to the reinforcement in the hand-pulling module to increase stiffness, delay cracking, and enhance durability. Prestressed steel strands are more durable than ordinary steel strands; it's like tightening a wooden barrel with iron hoops before filling it with water. This creates a counteracting compressive stress on the barrel walls. If the applied compressive stress exceeds the tensile stress caused by use and water pressure, the barrel will not crack or leak. The effect of prestressing on a circular water tank is similar to hooping a barrel. Similarly, applying prestress to a flexural member before loading creates a deformation opposite to that caused by the load. Before the load can cause the member to deform in its direction of action, it must first offset this opposite deformation before continuing to deform the member in the direction of the load. In this way, prestressing acts as an additional layer of protection for the member. Therefore, prestressed steel strands are much stronger than ordinary steel strands.
