Various specifications of prestressing steel strands and high-strength prestressing steel strands
High-strength prestressing steel strands are stranded cables composed of 2, 3, 7, or 19 high-strength steel wires, and are stress-relieved (stabilized), suitable for prestressed concrete and similar applications. The main characteristics of prestressing steel strands are high strength and good relaxation performance, and they are relatively straight when uncoiled. Common tensile strength grades are 1860 MPa, with other grades such as 1720, 1770, 1960, 2000, and 2100 MPa. This steel also has high yield strength.

Classification of High-Strength Prestressed Steel Strands
According to the number of wires in a single steel strand, they can be divided into: 2-wire steel strands, 3-wire steel strands, 7-wire steel strands, and 19-wire steel strands.
According to surface morphology, they can be divided into: plain steel strands (uncoated), indented steel strands, compacted steel strands, galvanized prestressed steel strands, epoxy-coated prestressed steel strands, etc.
They can also be classified by diameter, strength grade, standard, or raw material.
Specifications of High-Strength Prestressed Steel Strands
The common specification in the Chinese market is 15.2mm in diameter, with 12.7mm and 15.7mm being less common. Thicker steel strands are used for mine support.
Materials of High-Strength Prestressed Steel Strands
Prestressed steel strands are primarily made from cold-drawn high-carbon steel, with trace amounts of phosphides and lubricants remaining on the surface.
When the strength is exceptionally high (e.g., 2300 MPa), alloying elements like chromium need to be added. For galvanized high-strength products, the silicon content can be increased.
Some prestressed steel strands made of carbon steel have coating materials on their surface, such as zinc, zinc-aluminum alloy, epoxy resin, grease, and high-density polyethylene sheathing.
Stainless steel can also be used for prestressed steel strands, employing high-strength duplex stainless steel.
Applications of High-Strength Prestressed Steel Strands
Prestressed steel strands are mainly used in post-tensioned and pre-tensioned prestressed concrete projects.
Compacted steel strands are primarily used in lifting projects and also in projects like nuclear power.
Large-diameter 19-wire steel strands are often used for mine roadway support anchor cables.
Unbonded prestressed steel strands are often used for building floor slabs and some geotechnical anchor cables.
Galvanized steel strands are commonly used for bridge tie rods, stay cables, and external prestressing projects. Epoxy-coated steel strands have similar uses to galvanized prestressed steel strands and are suitable for projects requiring high durability.
